Frequently Asked Questions
  • All Natural - Nothing artificial. All natural colours, flavours and electrolytes. Quality ingredients to make a quality product. A clean labelled solution to support your daily hydration needs.
  • Taste – Mild in flavour and gentle on the stomach. No lasting after-taste like artificial ingredients leave. Aqualyte is easy to drink, so you stay hydrated preventing the detrimental affects on health and performance that dehydration can have.
  • Rapid Hydration – A hypertonic solution which empties from the stomach and gets absorbed into the body fast. Hypotonic solutions are absorbed faster than isotonic or hypertonic ones. Formulated to invoke the sodium glucose co-transport system which increases absorption even faster.
  • Low Sugar (but importantly it contains some) – Natural carbohydrates activate the sodium glucose co-transport system which speeds up fluid and electrolyte absorption 4-6 times faster than water alone. They also provide nutritional value which contributes towards physical activity or aids recovery when someone is unwell and normal nutritional intake is compromised. Artificial sweeteners don’t do this so are less effective.
  • Balanced Electrolytes – Hypertonic solution have a lower concentration of electrolytes that what’s found in the bodies intra and extracellular compartments. This is partly why Aqualyte is rapidly absorbed but also factors in that most electrolytes, vitamins and minerals are replaced in a normal diet. So whilst Aqualyte will replace some, it’s designed to be used as part of an overall hydration and nutrition strategy, so people don’t exceed the recommended daily intake of nutrients specified by the Australian Dietary Guidelines.
  • Australian owned and made. Made in our own purpose built quality controlled and certified facilities. We only make Aqualyte so there is no cross contamination with other ingredients and allergens like gluten or dairy. Safe and effective for those with specific nutritional needs.
Why Aqualyte?

This depends on what your needs are however as a general rule we suggest alternating between water and Aqualyte according to sweat rate, environmental condition and your individual needs. Alternating between water and Aqualyte in a ratio of 2:1 is an effective hydration strategy in most situations.

For Work or Exercise

If you are working or exercising then you should try and drink the same volume of fluid as what you are losing in sweat. For example, a worker with a sweat rate of 400-600ml/hour is not uncommon so over a 10 hour shift, they need to replace between 4-6 litres of fluid.

Whilst alternating between water and Aqualyte in a ratio of 2:1 is an effective hydration strategy in most situations. A ratio of 1:1 is suitable in hot conditions, when physically active or when there is a high risk of dehydration.

For Those Unwell

A ratio of 1:1 is suitable to help replace lost fluid and electrolytes following illness like gastroenteritis, vomiting and the flu. If normal dietary intake is compromised, then using only Aqualyte is ok until regular food intake is resumed.

If in doubt or your condition persists, seek professional advise from your local pharmacist or doctor as Aqualyte is not a medicine or a substantial source of vitamins and minerals.

It sure is. Not only is Aqualyte gluten free but our whole production facility is.

We only make Aqualyte in our facilities so there is no risk cross contamination with other ingredients or allergens like gluten, nuts and dairy.

A Hydration Solution for Expecting Mothers.

Aqualyte is considered safe for pregnant women. All natural ingredients in a hypotonic solution means it is designed to help the body stay hydrated and maintain a healthy balance of fluids and electrolytes.

Staying well‑hydrated is especially important during pregnancy, as symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and sweating can make dehydration more likely. Aqualyte contains essential electrolytes which support fluid balance, muscle and nerve function.

Aqualyte is a hypotonic solutions so it has lower electrolyte levels than the body. This means it can help with hydration without the risk of mothers exceeding the Recommended Daily Intake (RDI's) of sodium or potassium advised in the Australian Dietary Guidelines.

Aqualyte is low in sugar but importantly it contains some (nothing artificial). Natural carbohydrates help improve taste, support fluid absorption, and provide some energy to meet your daily needs—helpful for those experiencing changes in appetite or digestion during pregnancy.

Mild flavours, rapidly absorbed and gentle on the stomach - The feedback we have received by pregnant women over the years has been nothing but positive.

Important Considerations
Even though Aqualyte is considered safe, it’s always best to speak with a suitable health professional before adding anything new during your term, especially for those with any pre-existing conditions. If unsure, please be safe and seek professional guideance.

Aqualyte is a hypotonic solution which means that the levels of electrolytes are less than what is in the body.

Aqualyte doen't try and replace all the electrolytes lost. Its purpose is to replace some, knowing that the remainder will be replenished through normal dietary intake.

Based on our recommendation to alternate between drinking water and Aqualyte in most circumstances, the risk of exceeding the RDI in electrolytes would be exceedingly difficult at all age groups. Therefore it can be used by all.

Aqualyte should be used as part of an overall hydration and nutritional strategy. It's is not a concentrated electrolyte supplment but rather it prioritises hydration with some electrolyte replacement and some glucose to help offset fatigue and aid recovery.

Under certain storage conditions or between different batches, Aqualyte may vary in appearance, such as the colour vibrancy of the granules or a change in its free-flowing consistency. This is due to our use of natural colours, flavours, and ingredients as opposed to artificial ones.

Under certain storage conditions over time, Aqualyte sachets may lose some of its free flowing consistency and become more granular and hard. This is due to our use of natural ingredients as opposed to artificial ones.

Natural ingredients contain small amounts of residual moisture that at high temperatures can cause condensation within the sachet. On cooling, this moisture is reabsorbed by the powder which binds the various electrolytes together, making them more crystallised and hard. Similarly, because we use natural ingredients, the vibrancy of the colour can differ slightly between batches.

There is no change to product safety, shelf life or effectiveness. Once placed in water, Aqualyte will dissolve easily and be just as effective.

Whilst there are artificial ‘anti-caking agents’ that can be used to help mitigate this, like sodium dioxide, we are reluctant to use these. We want to keep Aqualyte all-natural and the addition of these ingredients will affect taste and absorption rate which are features Aqualyte is renowned for.

Research has shown that many workers and athletes turn up to work/sport in a hypo-hydrated state (mild dehydration). This will compromise their productivity and performance from the start.

We often recommend for people to drink 600ml in the hour leading into activity so that they start hydrated.

Aqualyte should be part of an overall hydration and nutrition strategy. It is suitable to use (in addition to water) before, during or after activity.

Store unopened packets in cool dry place out of direct sunlight prior to use.

Aqualyte is a hydroscopic powder (it likes to absorb moisture). Store open sachets in air-tight container or zip lock bag and close the lid on tubs as soon as practical.

Some of the powder may become granulated if exposed to the air and moisture is absorbed. Whilst this changes the powders appearance slightly, there is no change to product safety, shelf life or effectiveness. Once placed in water, Aqualyte will dissolve easily and be just as effective.

  • Mix with the recommended volume of water to create a HYPOTONIC solution.
  • Do not make more concentrated as this will affect taste, absorption rate and the amount of fluid consumed.
  • Refreshing when made with chilled water.
  • Can be kept refrigerated for 2-3 days when made up.
  • Consume Aqualyte regularly throughout the day in proportion to sweat loss or your
    individual needs when feeling unwell.
  • Do not rely on thirst alone as an indicator of hydration needs.

When mixing large quantities

  • Put a 1/4 of the water into the container and mix Aqualyte until fully dissolved.
  • Add the remaining water stirring occasionally.
  • If adding ice, take into account the volume being added.
  • 2kg of ice is approximately 2 litres of water so for a 20-litre container add 18 litres of water and 2kg of ice.
